Gretchen Schrafft is a writer and educator based in Providence, Rhode Island. Her short stories have appeared or are forthcoming in journals like New England Review, Carve, and Joyland. Most recently, her fiction writing has been supported through scholarships and fellowships from the Sewanee Writers’ Conference and Lighthouse Works. She has written a novel, WITCHBITCH, that weaves together themes of coming-of-age, reproductive justice, and the occult.

As a non-fiction writer, Gretchen’s most recently written about discoveries in brain science for Brown University, and spotlighted current students for Oregon State University’s alumni magazine. She is endlessly curious and is always on the hunt for a good story and a new outlet through which to tell it.

Gretchen has taught creative writing and literature courses at many institutions, including University of Denver and Seattle University. She holds an MFA from Oregon State University and a PhD in creative writing and literature from University of Denver, where her critical work focused on medieval and early American literature.
